A downloadable game

Sumo Skirmish was made in about 13hours as part of a game jam hosted by the University of Portsmouth's Computer Games course.

The idea started off as a collection of minigames that the player could choose from, however I quickly realised that wasn't going to happen with the time I had, so I just picked one of the minigames I intended to add and fleshed it out a bit more.

Sumo Skirmish is a two-player versus game where the goal is to push your opponent off the platform using one button.

Tapping your respective button will throw a hit at the enemy, pushing them one step closer to a tumble. Holding the button will block any oncoming attacks and double the recovery time of your opponent's attacks, giving you a window to retaliate. Be careful though, take three hits to your block and your stamina will break, giving the opponent a free hit. You can recover stamina either by having your block broken, or by landing successful hits on your opponent.

One of the challenges for this game is getting the timing right so the game doesn't feel clunky, but also doesn't move too quickly, as well as adding depth with the limited control scheme.  I've not had a chance to test this with someone else, but I hope that it provides a satisfying, if a bit rough around the edges experience.

I'd love to tidy this up a lot more if I get to time as I'm actually somewhat proud of it, in a weird way, but we'll see. I could see it being a fun little mobile game to pass the time with a friend or something.

I wrote in a log throughout development, here's a link if you're curious (Warning: Rotten language): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ps7j_31WRo4qJeinyubpddU10XAsr74BiXJAaG2zApU/...
